Minnesota Vikings 2012 Playoffs

The Minnesota Vikings may not have won any Super Bowls or NFL Championships since their inception in 1961, but the franchise does have a playoff pedigree that would make most teams jealous. Vikings playoff tickets have come in droves, whether for the Purple People Eaters in the ‘70s that swallowed running backs and quarterback whole or in the ‘90s and early 2000s when Randall Cunningham and Dante Culpepper made the Metrodome the scene for 60 yard touchdown receptions by Chris Carter and Randy Moss or 50 yard scampers by Robert Smith. Minnesota has been blessed with some the games most exciting players through out its over forty year history and has made the fans flock to Minneapolis every Sunday during the regular season schedule and almost every postseason to see their team put up big numbers on the board and compete with the best teams in the NFL.
The Viking s came close to bring the Lombardi Trophy home in 1969, but Alan Page, Gary Larson, and Jim Marshall could not stop the Chiefs offense, as they lost 23-7 in Super Bowl IV after a 12-2 record in the regular season. The Vikings would playoff tickets to the Super Bowl a tradition in the next decade, but could not defeat the Dolphins in 1973, the Steelers in 1974, or the Raiders in 1976. The closest the Vikings have come since was in 1998. Randall Cunningham’s last season as quarterback was the year Randy Moss entered the league. He and Chris Carter were unstoppable duo up field with help from Robert Smith bringing the ball out of the backfield. An offense that may have been the “Greatest Show on Turf” before the Rams went 15-1 in the regular season easily defeating the Cardinals after a first round bye. A shocking upset by the Atlanta Falcons stopped a match up with the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl.
The Minnesota Vikings are hoping that 44-7 win in Week 17 got them back on the right path after losing three out of four games. The team began the season 6-0, but limped to the end with a 12-4 record. Still they come in as the second seed in the NFC and have at least one home game at the Metrodome, so fans get one chance to purchase Viking playoff tickets for a game near them.
Minnesota Vikings Background
Is the offense in sync? Favre and Brad Childress butted heads earlier and though publicly they have said they have patched things up, one has to wonder how well things are actually going in the locker room. Favre has been able to throw the ball all over the field thanks to the scare that is Adrian Peterson. Even when his running numbers are down, teams are fearful of the running back. Meanwhile, other teams have been willing to let Favre beat them with his arm.
The defense is merely average against the pass thanks to injuries, but has remained able to thwart the run. Overall, the team has been able to hold teams to less than 20 points a game, but they have been allowing more and more teams to score against them at will (mainly through the air).
This team looked like they ran out of steam until Week 17, but the great, domineering play may have rekindled the camaraderie that made them so dangerous to begin the NFL season.
