Offensively they have been a disappointment because they have been without forward Ales Hemsky, center Shawn Horcoff, and now Jordan Eberle. Before recently getting injured, Eberle was having a good year for Oilers now they need players like Ryan Jones to step up and carry the Oilers offensive attack. Defensively the Oilers have had trouble as well. They have allowed over 140 goals this season. This is a direct result from the Oilers inability to get up and down the ice. Since the injury of Ryan Whitney, Tom Gilbert has done a good job of picking up the slack but one is not a defense. A big reason for their trouble on defense would be the lack of experience, but one upside to the situation is that is has helped with the development of their young players. In the net the Oilers have struggled a little bit as well. Nikolai Khabibulin has played OK. He has a goals against average of just over three goals a game and a .895 save percentage. Oilers fans feel that Devan Dubnyk should get more minutes because he has appeared to be comfortable when opposing teams apply pressure. Currently he has a save percentage of just over two goals a game and a save percentage over 90 percent. Although the first half of the season was rough, Edmonton Oilers fans are excited and confident about the second half of the season.
