The Wild are currently in third place in the Northwest Division right behind the Calgary Flames. If they continue to play effectively they should have no problem climbing the division ranks to second place and safely landing in the 2011 NHL Playoffs and possibly in the Stanley Cup. The first half of the Minnesota Wild's season seemed to be defined by streaks, of both the winning and losing variety. If they look to make it to the 2011 playoffs they must go from playing mediocre hockey to great hockey. Captain Mikko Koivu has led the Wild this year he has scored almost 20 goals and has over 30 assists. Koivu is currently tied for first in power play goals this season. The second-year Wild Martin Havalat has improved his game tremendously. His shot is spot on and he has taken over the role as the team's leading scorer. The Wild have played well on both offense and defense, but if they had an x-factor this season it has been their ability to take advantage of power plays. The Wild have been in the top ten all year in power plays and it started with the addition of Pierre- Marc Bouchard. Matt Cullen started out hot as the leader of the Wilds power play, but as the season has passed he has been demoted to the second power play unit. If the Wild can continue to fight and play good hockey they should be able to find their way into the 2011 Stanley Cup. Wild fans are as wild for hockey as ever, and are ready to get back to Xcel Energy Center for the next Minnesota Wild home game. Don't wait until the game is sold out!
