The 2010-2011 Toronto Maple Leafs entered the season with the same expectations as every other Canadian based NHL hockey teams. However, as the playoffs started, the Leafs weren't lacing up the skates but instead headed home for a long offseason. Sadly enough that has been a reoccurring theme for the Leafs, as they haven't qualified for the post-season since 2003-2004. Then they fell to the Flyers in the Eastern Conference semi-finals. In a land where hockey is king, the Leafs need to turn it around in a hurry before they become the ugly step-sister of the hockey world in Canada. Fans and the players can't point to just one category to blame on the Leafs' overall failure. They ranked 21st overall in goals per game, 24th in goals allowed per game, 22nd on the power play and 28th overall on the penalty kill. With special teams being a key component to any teams' success those last two rankings sealed the Leafs' fate. If there is one bright side to the Leafs' record, it's that they won 37 games, their most since 2006-2007. Phil Kessel led the Leafs' in goals and overall points. He finished with 32 goals and 32 assists while playing in all 82 games. Unfortunately, for the Leafs he had a +/- of -20, which was second worse on the Leafs' roster. Kessel though wasn't alone in scoring for the Leafs'. They had four players score 20 + goals including Nikolai Kulemin with 30 goals, Mikhail Grabovski with 29 and Clarke MacArthur with 21. The future doesn't look all that promising for the Leafs so major changes may be needed in a hurry to keep fans hungry for Toronto Maple Leafs tickets. Kessel, Kulemin and Grabovski seem like the only safe players on the Leafs' roster, but one of them may need to be dealt to improve the overall depth of the roster. The Leafs haven't won the Stanley Cup since 1967 and by Canadian hockey standards that is way too long of a drought. The Leafs' brain trust may want to take some chances and get top flight free agents or they themselves may be back in the market for new jobs.
