The history of the Oklahoma City orchestra goes back as early as 1924. But The Oklahoma Symphony Orchestra was officially founded in 1938 by Ralph Rose. The OKC Philharmonic performance at the Oklahoma City Memorial Service after the tragic bombing of the Murrah Federal Building was recorded on Cd in 1995 by Warner Bros. Records. A significant portion of the proceeds from the international sale of this recording was donated to Project Recovery OKC. The 1995-96 season saw the orchestra producing and performing "La Boheme" in celebration of its 100th anniversary. The year 2001 was special for the OKC Philharmonic as it opened its season in the newly renovated Civic Center Music Hall. The renovation cost approximately $52.2 million and led to the complete reconstruction of the performance chamber into the Thelma Gaylord Performing Arts Theater.
