Otis Mark Taylor is of the finest blues artists of all time. He was born to Otis and Sarah Taylor in 1948 in Chicago. The family later shifted to Denver Colorado. The Denver Folk Center was Otis's favorite hangout as a child. It is here that he bought his first instrument, a ukulele. He learned to play many more instruments at the same site. His musical journey started when he started his first band in 1964, the band was called "Butterscotch Fire Department Blues Band."
Taylor furthered his journey when he moved to London in 1969. He was signed up by the London based Blue Horizon Records. He enjoyed his stint in London but his unique style of songwriting and artist freedom he demanded did not go down well with the music arranger. Disappointed with the event, he returned to Colorado. He released his next album shortly titled, "T&O Short Line." The album was a collaboration with Deep Purple legend Tommy Bolin.

For some reason or the other, Taylor got tired of the music business and retired in 1977. For the next 20 years he ran a very successful antiques dealership in Colorado. But his mentor Kenny Pasarelli continued to pester him about coming back and playing music. He finally gave in and returned to perform in 1995. In his performance he was joined on stage by Pasarelli and ace guitarist Eddie Turner. This three combined forces and called themselves the Otis Taylor Band for the next few years.
Otis Taylor eventually signed a record deal in 2001, with NorthernBlues Music. He released his phenomenal albums, White African in 2001 and Respect the Dead in 2002. These two recordings cemented Taylor's position as one of the most original and influential blues artists to emerge in recent years.
