Particle is a jam band with four members from Los Angeles. Band consisted of keyboardist Steve Molitz, guitarist Dave Simmons, drummer Darren Pujalet and bass by Eric Gould. Unfortunately Dave Simmons died suffering from sudden illness shorty after band was formed. Band was joined by Charlie Hitchcock on guitar later. Particle along with Sound Tribe Sector 9, and The Disco Biscuits is counted among group which was the first one to mix various genres of music like jazz, funk, electronica and rock in 'livetronica'. Particle in lat 2005 performed on the Xingolati Cruise. But after this performance Hitchcock was thrown out of the band. This remained source of controversy for many months as the official website of Particle said that his parting ways with them came after a mutual decision. But Hitchcock said that he was dismissed by Particle.
For filling place of Hitchcock band employed Scott Metzger on vocals and Ben Combe on guitars. Both had their first performances with Particle in February of 2006. This performance was recorded, filmed and released in a album entitled Transformations : Live. Transformations : Live released in July of 2006. Album had guest appearances by many other artists such as guitar hero Joe Satriani, The Doors member Robby Krieger, DJ Logic and experimental rap duo Blackalicious. Album can be characterized as an album which saw hip hop and overt rock influences and explored vocal based music. Particle has been part of many prestigious tours. In 2006 they had huge tour with performance in various parts of country. On the West Coast they performed with The Flying Other Brothers Featuring Pete Sears and Barry Sless. Partic were also part of annual Bumbershoot Festival which is held in Seattle. In Colorado they had shows in Denver and Boulder at The Gothic and The Fox respectively. They also played a special late night at Parish set which was part of ACL Festival in Austin. They ended tour in the start of October in Florida. Particle were also seen at another great musical festival Harvest Jam which is held in Midwest. Festival held from 5th to 7th October featured several other performers like U-Melt, Ray's Music Exchange, The Maji, Tea Leaf Green, Groovatron many other. They performed on 7th October at Harvest Jam giving some brilliant and energetic performance. Apart from musical festivals original music of Particle was featured in a video game release ' Scarface: The World is Yours'. Their song "American Dream" can be seen throughout the game.
