Passion Pit is the second wave synthpop group out of Cambridge, Massachussets that began as a one-man project in the Emerson dorm room of Michael Angelakos. Angelakos performed the songs, originally meant for his girlfriend at the time, at a solo show in the Boston and suddenly there was interest in forming a real live band to accompany his laptop music. Passion Pit tickets are, surprisingly, now available for this fearsome five-some as they take to the road on a long concert tour to promote their latest album, Manners.
The group is comprised of Michael Angelakos, Ian Hultquist and Ayad Al Adhamy on synth, Thome Plasse on bass, and Adam Todd Lavinsky on drums. Ironically enough, Angelakos, the heart, soul, and creative director of the band is the only member who was not a student at the Berklee College of Music, a independent college specializing in contemporary music.
Passion Pit's first solo project was the EP Chunk of Change, released in 2008. The album led to a record deal with Frenchkiss Records thanks to the overwhelming popularity of the tracks "Sleepyhead" and "Better Things". The song "Sleepyhead" blew up on iTunes in America and on NME TV in the UK.
