Artist Biography - Paul Cebar
|
Paul Cebar, a famous jazz singer, originated from Milwaukee in Wisconsin. Besides singing, he is also an expert in African, Latin American and Caribbean music. Cebar commenced his musical career as a mere performer in coffeehouses. There, he sang the local folk songs. He continued the same up to the mid of 1970s. His repertoire consisted of rhythm, blues and jump blues songs. After that, he took the admission at the New College of Sarasota, situated in Florida. Here he honed his skills as a jazz singer.
After passing out from the New college, he joined 'R & B Cadets', a famous Jazz and R&B combo band of the contemporary period. Here he met with Jon Sieger, Mike Sieger, Robyn Pluer, Bob Jennings, Juli Wood and Bob Schneider. Before Cebar joined the band, the band used to sing the songs from Sieger's compositions. After Cebar had joined the band, it started performing with the obscure songs of the mid-century, unearthed by Cebar.
In 1986, Cebar released an album under the 'R&B Cadets' entitled, 'Top Happy'. As it became a massive hit, its copies sold millions. Later, Paul Cebar established his own band named, 'Paul Cebar and The Milwaukeeans'. Here he started to perform sundry jazz, R&B and bebop songs, composed by Louis Jordan, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and others. Earlier, the band had five members. Cebar, the lead vocalist, also played the acoustic guitar. Robyn Pluer was another vocalist. Rip Tenor was the saxophone-player. Alan Anderson controlled the bass. Guy Hoffman was the sole percussionist. Due to some unavoidable circumstances, the band was broken in 1986. Later, Cebar again formed the band. Presently, the band consists of seven members. Cebar is the lead guitarist and the vocalist. Pluer is also a vocalist. Bob Jennings handles the saxophone and the keyboard. Patrick Patterson is the bassist. Tenor is the saxophone-player and Reggie Bordeaux is the only drummer. Romero Beverly is the percussionist. The band is renowned for exploring African, Latin American and Caribbean sounds in a rhythm and blues context.
