Kanye West and Nicole Kidman both gave me a good laugh this weekend and made me say…poor them. Let’s start with Kanye West who said in an interview with Vibe magazine, for their February issue, that he wants “less fans”. He says he wants a “low key career like Bjork”. Really?? He should have thought about that before maybe headlining for Lollapalooza, releasing 4 major albums and producing music for performers like Alicia Keys and Janet Jackson. He gives the example that he would rather have 20,000 fans that really get him and his music vs. 100,000 fans that just like him because he is the hot guy of the moment. Pretty profound huh? He worked his whole life to become rich and famous and now he wants less. Spoken like a true artist. He wants his music to be appreciated and not just out there to be listened to lightly. I wonder what his plan is to accomplish fewer fans.
Next on the, I’m sorry but I don’t feel bad for you list is Nicole Kidman who says that she was embarrassed by her performance in her latest movie, Australia. While at the premiere she told her husband, Keith Urban, that “I can’t look at this movie and be proud of what I have done”. Wow, that is bad. It is one thing to say it to your husband privately, or feel that you didn’t give your best performance but to say it publically during a radio interview is another thing. Hey, all the stars have movies that they are not proud of but do they talk about them while they are still in the theatre. Her poor coworkers and director, what a slam. She does say that her co star Hugh Jackman and Brandon Walters where both “wonderful.” Nicole took her family and fled to Australia to get away from all the bad press. The film so far in the U.S. has earned slightly under $50 million and nationwide just under $130 million which does cover its production costs. Is it me or is that just a staggering number to make a bad movie, which was hoped to boost Australia’s tourism???!!! Nicole’s last few movies have not been stellar; remember Bewitched and The Golden Compass? She does have 2 new films in pre production so hopefully she has a winner on her hands. So much for retiring huh Nicole or maybe the timing is just right.
