Singer songwriter, Joseph Brooks, has gotten himself into a lot of hot water lately. The 70 year old academy award winner is currently a suspect in 5 sexual assault complaints. This is the guy who wrote and directed the popular movie and even wrote the song for, “You Light Up My Life”. Didi Conn starred in the romantic comedy and the title song was sung by Debbie Boone. Do you remember that one from the 70’s?
Anyway, this man found yet another interesting was to use Craigslist, and advertised for models and actresses to come an audition for a role in his next film. He used his Hollywood background and the fact that he won an Oscar to entice them into calling him. He would then promise them a role in an upcoming movie about a prostitute. So get this, he would them basically offer them shots and alcohol, get them drunk, and have them “act out” sex acts on him, all to get a clear picture of their acting ability. Did I mention he was 70 years old!!! Simply unbelievable!!! Some of the women feel that they had been drugged, possibly been given the date rape drug in their drinks, but there is no conclusive evidence at this point.
The allegations are pretty bad. A woman from Seattle, who had just moved to New York, responded to the ad and said that “Brooks demanded that she have sex with him.” One woman said that after drinking some wine with him, she had sex with him. Yet another woman said that he sodomized her. At this time he hasn’t been charged with anything. Several of the events took place between March and May of last year.
At t his point Brooks isn’t talking to anyone, not the prosecutors or the press. The only comment that has been made is that he suffered a stroke 6 months ago. Didn’t I mention something about what goes around comes around yesterday…hmmmm?
