Let the Inaugural Celebrations Begin:

Today was the first of many parites and celebrations this week in Washington . HBO broadcast live today from the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, where muscians, actors, athletes, comedians and politicians stood with the common people to welcome our new President into the White House.  This was an historical event that included actors reading monoluges about moments in history and shared quotes from famous former Presidents like FDR and Abraham Lincoln. Musicians chose amazing songs which lifted spirtis and brought everyone together. Some of the speakers included Steve Carell, Jamie Foxx, Tom Hanks, Ashley Judd, Denzel Washington, George Lopes, Forest Whitaker and Tiger Woods. Some of the musicians that performed were Garth Brooks, U2, Beyonce, Bon Jovi, John Mellencamp, Mary J. Blige and the boss himself, Bruce Springsteen.

Denzel Wahsington started the day of by saying this day would “speak to the future of American” and with that Bruce Springsteen sang one of the most moving songs of all time, “The Rising”.  Springsteen had a choir singing along side him and the message that came through loud and clear was of the hope for the future with Obama in the Whitehouse. Another amazing moment was when Springsteen sang “This Land is Your Land” along with Pete Seeger. Everyone there was singing this song and believing in everything that was talked about during the event. U2 also gave an incredible performance of their song “Pride (In the Name of Love),which was a tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. as well as “City of Brilliant Lights” that became Obamas theme song after he won at the Iowas caucuses. Garth Brooks sang parts of “American Pie”, while the Isley Brothers sang “Shout” as well as “We Shall Be Free”.
It was really quite a site with all these famous performers sharing the stage, or rather the landing, right beneath the seated Abraham Lincoln.  The event last 2 hours and not only was an entertaining 2 hours but there was learning that went on along with  the courty coming together for the future. Even if you weren’t there you could feel it and that is what we need right now after the last 8 years – PRIDE for our country and our new President.
