What Do You Think? Real or Hoax

What is up with this whole Joaquin Phoenix becoming a rapper? The music and entertainment industries are all a buzz because they believe the whole thing could be a hoax. Ok, let’s start at the beginning, back in October 2008, Phoenix stunned his fans with the announcement that he was retiring from acting. Interesting but ok if that is what he wants to do. Then he talks about how he is going to focus on his musical career, makes sense the man can sing. Remember his portrayal of Johnny Cash in “Walk the Line”? he was incredible. Here is the thing, the music he wants to focus on, is his Rap music. Ok, then. Have you gotten a look at him lately? He doesn’t look like a rapper to me. He looks like a scruffy old homeless man.
His official debut, which was a few weeks ago in a Las Vegas nightclub, was a disaster. HE did one song and he could barely put together the sentences to the song. He then proceeds to literally fall off the stage when his song was finished. What is up with that?? Here is where the controversy comes in. Joaquin is having the whole transition into his new musical career filmed for a documentary. His brother in- law Casey Affleck (yes, Ben’s little brother) is directing the documentary. He is just so bad you hope it is a hoax because the reality of it is just too sad. In his defense Joaquin is saying that hey, it takes time to get good and this is all part of the process. He also says he is not bothered by all the negative comments that he knew going into this that some people would like him and some people wouldn’t.
Entertainment Weekly, who started the hoax theory, says they have sources that confirm their theory. One person tells the magazine that “He said, ‘It’s a put on. I am going to pretend to have a meltdown and change careers and Casey is going to film it.’ “It is also a possibility that his publicist as well a P. Diddy (who is producing Phoenix’s album) are also in on it. Some have speculated that he is doing this to get back at the media, who he has never had a good relationship with. At this point no one really knows but either way it is a bizarre story…stay tuned.
