Katy Perry is definitely riding high this summer. Her California Dreams Tour is one of the best selling of the summer. Her album Teenage Dream has gone platinum in the U.S. and sold over five millions copies worldwide. And now she appears poised to join the ranks of Michael Jackson, with five number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100!

So far she has already broken the record for number one singles from a single album on the Pop Charts with those five singles (“California Gurls”, “Teenage Dream”, “Firework”, “E.T”, and “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)). Previously Justin Timberlake and Lady Gaga had shared the record with four, Justin Timberlake off FutureSex/LoveSounds and Lady Gaga off The Fame.

Now, Perez Hilton jumped the gun in congratulating Perry for matching Jacko’s record, but it appears she is well on her to reaching number one. She finished number two behind the LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem”.

Supposedly, this is the last single from the album, but if she does end up tying the King of Pop, the question beckons, should she throw another song out there or let MJ share her place in Billboard music history?

This is something that could set off a generational debate in the next coming months - the young kid looking to knock off the music idol. Imagine that fight and just how ugly it could get.
