The son of a jazz cellist and a federal worker and raised in the D.C. area, Raheem DeVaughn seemed destined for a career as musician, beginning with his inclination to lead his preschool class in musical numbers. Raheem DeVaughn tickets now sell years later as the neo-soul/R&B musician releases radio hits and award winning songs.

DeVaughn's passion for music returned for good in high school. He worked in the industry, putting price tags on CDs at Tower Records and performing on the side. Raheem was a local hit in D.C., winning over the crowds as part of popular groups like Bar None and State of the Union.

His rise to national prominence came in 2002, when Jive Records signed the young singer after several industry veterans began working with him. Three years later, Raheem DeVaughn released his first album, The Love Experience. The album sold over a quarter of a million records and reached number nine on the U.S. R&B/Hip Hop Albums charts.

The impressive debut album led to a sophomore album three years later. Love Behind the Melody was released on January 15, 2008 and once again topped the quarter million record mark. The album even reached number five on the Billboard 200, a very impressive feat for an artist best described as Neo-soul. His single Woman reached number one on the Hot Adult R&B charts as well and led to a Grammy nomination.
