According to the 2006 Canada Census, the population of the city stands at 82,772, making it the third most populous city in the state of Alberta.

Red Deer is situated in center of the the Calgary-Edmonton Corridor. The city was named after the deers found in this area and was incorporated in the year 1913. As per the Canadian Census Bureau, the city covers an area 26.7 square miles and is placed at an elevation of 855 m.
