Robert Randolph And The Family Band
If you are in the mood to hear some groovy funk and soul that is reminiscent of bands like Earth, Wind and Fire and Sly and the Family Stone, then you need to get yourself tickets to see the immensely talented Robert Randolph and the Family Band. This band brings to the music scene a heady mixture of electric grooves, funky rhythms and a large helping of soul, all brought to you with a strong message of positivity. In an age of broken dreams and angry hearts, Robert Randolph and the Family Band are a much needed breath of fresh air.
The story of Robert Randolph and the Family Band is the story of Robert Randolph, the founding member and diving force behind the band. Despite growing up in a religious family, Randolph found his way to the wrong side of the tracks at an early age, cutting school, getting into fights and experimenting with drugs. His strong family unit and ties with his church didn't seem to be helping and it looked like Randolph would never change his life around. But salvation came to Randolph in the most unlikeliest form- the pedal steel guitar.

Artist Biography - Robert Randolph And The Family Band
|
With this instrument, Randolph quickly withdrew from street life to practice. He became enamored with the music and technique of Stevie Ray Vaughn and soon found himself playing with the church choir. Things were beginning to look up for the young Randolph. Together with his cousins Danyel Morgan and Marcus Randolph, the trio got to work making some original compositions and even managed to cut a demo. The band was invited by avant-jazz musician John Medeski to play on his project The Word.
As their popularity grew, the band decided to increase their numbers, adding Jason Crosby on organs and opening for acts like Soulive and Victor Wooten. After the release of their studio debut, Unclassified, the band caught the eye of blues legend Eric Clapton and began touring with him as a supporting act. They were also recently hired by ABC to write a new theme song for the network's NBA telecasts.
