San Diego Street Scene
Are you looking for a festival that combines the greatest eclectic music in the world, good alcohol and a multi-cultural array of food from all around the world with a carnival feel like no other? Than you need to grab your friends and get your tickets to the San Diego Street Scene, a music festival that has now become the largest musical festival in the country. If New Orleans has Mardi Gras, this is the way we do it Cali style!
The San Diego Street Scene was started way back in 1984. Usually held in the summer, the festival started out as a three day musical bonanza that took place in what used to be a rather desolate but historic part of town known as the Gas Lamp Quarter. The event showcased truly eclectic genres of music and in this respect, it was a trailblazer, putting together bands that would never have normally shared a stage long before Lollapalooza did it. It's very first line up included The Blasters, Los Lobos, Robert Cray and The Neville Brothers.
What originally started as a two-stage event has now become one of the biggest music festivals in the country, showcasing more than 35 bands over a space of two days on no less than six stages, all spaced out to provide a lot of room to wander and mingle. In this way, a number of different music styles such as jazz, punk, electronica and folk can all be experienced in the same place with no clashing.
