Artist Biography - Sara Gazarek
|
Born in the year 1982, in Seattle, WA. She grew up being exposed to an array of art forms, that ranged from music to theater, from dance to sports. Later she was completely overwhelmed with the beauty of the Jazz genre. Fortunately for her, the Roosevelt High School had and excellent program and facilities for Jazz aficionados.
During high school itself she had gained enough mastery with the Jazz, that she performed solo at the famed, Essentially Ellington Jazz fest in the year 2000. She was rightfully honored with the Ella Gitzgerald Outstanding Vocalist Award. The ceremony took place at the Avery Fiher Hall of the Lincoln Center.
From being a student a the University of Southern California, and having already found her passion, she went to the acclaimed Thornton School of Music. She found her mentors in the celebrated artists, namely, Tierney Sutton, Jennifer Barnes and the legendary Jazz artist Carmen Bradford, and arranged to learn from the maestros, albeit through private tuitions. This career move also, culminated in her being awarded a graduate degree in Jazz Studies. For her extraordinary abilities and talents she received many scholarships, prominent among these were Sarashota Jazz Society Scholarship, Hilton Head Jazz Society Scholarship and John Coltrane Foundation Scholarship.
She was also a permanent symbol at the University of South Carolina, in all its music events as she performed as a soloist, with the Thornton Jazz Orchestra, and also at the Concert and Vocal Jazz Ensemble. She was also actively associated with the Jazz Reach Program at the University, for two years. Around the time, the Jazz Aspen Snowmass Academy of Aspen asked her to visit the academy. Here she composed excellent and memorable music and also had the opportunity to meet many greats of the elite Jazz community such as, Allan Harris Cyrus Chestnut, Christian McBride, Grady Tate, James Carter amongst many others.
Her discography includes Yours 2005, Live At The Jazz Bakery 2006, Return To You 2007. Her latest album Return to you has been brought out by the same team which did the earlier album Yours. This team has the Grammy nominated John Clayton, Josh Nelson, Matt Slocum and Erik Kertes. However it is the piano which adds a dash of uniqueness to the album, its been played by Josh Nelson, who both composes and writes.
Its a fact that, this team of young musicians will have you screaming encore, and will blow your mind, when you buy the tickets and go to their shows.
