Guitarist Randy Vadebilt and Singer Jon Spencer are the architects extraordinaire of Scarlet. Their vision for the band goes a long way back, right to their high-school days in Richmond, Virginia, their hometown. Breaking The Dead Stare their Debut EP was released in 2000 on Tribunal a North Carolinian Indie label. The album sent major shockwaves throughout the hardcore scene in the region but surprisingly the band broke up immediately after that. The reason given for the disunion was their inability to understand the underlying meaning of what they were doing. The band was made up of five friends who were going five separate ways to five different colleges. It was difficult to chuck everything up for something that they did not fully understand.

A good artist is at all times attracted to his wares and true calling in life. The same was the case with Spencer, who grew increasingly weary and restless of academic life, and that after just half a semester at college. He contacted Vanderbilt, who incidentally was going through the same motions, and both banded together to form a new outfit called Spitfire. The duo issued an EP for Tooth and Nail records and supported the release by touring the country. But Spitfire soon died a sudden death, when their was a conflict in interest of a few of the supporting members of the band. The duo decided to take time out and worked on few side projects before finally coming together again, to work an a music that was heavier then their other attempts. The duo enlisted the help of drummer Andreas Magnusson and wrote and recorded several tracks for a demo. All this was aided by a simple fact: Genuine enthusiasm and excitement about the noise they were making.
The demos were passed off to Carl Severson, the major domo of Ferret Records. He immediately decided to issue the bands next record and signed the trio for a record deal. The threesome were soon joined Chris Hagan, who dropped out of college in order to fill the vacant bass slot of Scarlet. The band issued Something To Lust About and EP in 2003, which redefined the whole concept of metalcore. Their newest album is their debut, Cult Classic', which is fast scaling the popularity charts.
