The city of Scranton is located in the state of Pennsylvania, United States. Scranton falls in the Lackawanna County and is also the county seat of the same. According to the 2000 Census, the population of the city stands at 76,415, making it the sixth most populous city in the state of Pennsylvania.

Scranton is regarded by many as the geographic and cultural center of the entire region of the Lackawanna River Valley. The city was incorporated as a city in the year 1866 and as per the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 25.4 square miles, of which 99.17% is land.
