The city of Shakopee is located in the state of Minnesota, United States. Shakopee falls in the Scott County and is the county seat of the same. According to 2007 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the city stands at 33,460.

Shakopee is situated southwest of the city of Minneapolis and is on the southern bend of the river of Minnesota. The city was incorporated in the year 1857 and it is part of the 'Minneapolis-Saint Paul Metropolitan Area'. As per the United States Census Bureau, the city covers a total area of 28.5 square miles, of which 94.90% is land.

The city is a popular tourist location and features many attractions, such as the Valleyfair amusement park. The amusement park covers an area of 90 acre and is presently the largest amusement park in the Upper Midwest United States. Valleyfair features a water park, over 75 rides and also 8 roller coasters. Originally named Coney Island, the park was opened in the year 1976 and since then it has amused and entertained millions.

Another popular tourist attraction in the city is the horse racing track, namely 'Canterbury Park'. The park features a one mile oval dirt track and several furlong turf courses. Throughout the year, the park hosts scheduled races as well as special holiday races. The city is also associated with the Minnesota Renaissance Festival.
