In this age of synth-heavy hip-hop and bubblegum pop, Sharon Jones and the Dap-King's have created an original, atypical brand of retro Southern Soul. Their melodies are infectious and magnetizing. But Desco was dissolved in the late 90's and she signed up with Daptone Records. This is where she encountered the label's house group, the Dap-Kings. The Dap Kings consist of Homer "Funky-Foot" Steinweiss (Drums), Binky Griptite (Guitar), Boogaloo Velez (Conga), David Guy (Trumpet), Bosco "Bass" Mann (Bass, Piano, Vibes, Tambourine), Neal Sugarman (Tenor Saxophone), Ed Michaels (Baritone Saxophone) and Tom Brenneck (Guitar, Piano). Sharon partnered with them in 2002 and released "Dap-Dipping with Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings." The album was very well received and got her the "The Queen of Funk" in the U.K.
After touring for a couple of years, Sharon and the Dap Kings entered the studio once again to record their next album. The came up with their highly anticipated album, "Naturally," The album was more successful than the predecessor and cemented Sharon's position as purist soul singer.
