|
Sinead O' Connor was born in Dublin, Ireland on December 8th 1966. She moved to London in 1985 where she wrote and produced her first album The Lion and the Cobra. Sinéad signed to Ensign Records and the album was released in 1987. Sinéad returned to London to record her second album in 1989. The first single from the album was a cover of Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U." Released in January 1990, it went to #1 in 17 countries. The album I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got, which Sinéad also produced, followed in March and entered the UK album charts at #1. Sinéad's third album, Am I Not Your Girl, was recorded in New York in 1992 with a 47-piece orchestra. The album featured cover versions of classic songs and was produced by Sinéad and Phil Ramone. Two singles were released, "Success Has Made A Failure Of Our Home" and "Don't Cry For Me Argentina."In 1994, Sinéad recorded and released her fourth album, Universal Mother, which she produced along with John Reynolds, Tim Simenon, and Phil Coulter. The album featured ten new songs and two covers.
A new six-track EP entitled GOSPEL OAK, written by Sinéad and produced by John Reynolds, was originally released in June 1997 on the now-defunct Chrysalis/EMI Records; GOSPEL OAK was re-released through Columbia Records in August 1997.
In mid-2000 O' Connor issued Faith and Courage, her first full-length effort in six years. Sean-Nós Nua followed two years later, and was widely hailed for its return to the Irish folk tradition as its inspiration. In September 2003, the two-disc She Who Dwells... appeared through Vanguard. It collected rare and previously unreleased studio tracks, as well as live material culled from a late 2002 date in Dublin. Collaborations followed in 2005, a compilation of appearances on other artist's records throughout her long career. Later that year she released Throw Down Your Arms, a collection of reggae classics by the likes of Burning Spear, Peter Tosh and Bob Marley.
