Snow Patrol has been playing together since 1994, first meeting and being formed at the University of Dundee in Bangor, Northern Ireland. The group Shrug, consisting of Gary Lightbody, Michael Morrison, and Mark McClelland but eventually changed its name to Snow Patrol and signed with the Scottish indie label Jeepster. Under the record label they built a following by word of mouth, releasing two EPs and two studio albums before finally enjoying success in 2003 with the album Final Straw, the first album under the banner of Fiction/Interscope. By the time Snow Patrol had become a financial success the group had endured the departure of drummer Michael Morrison, persisted as a two-piece band, and found its third member again in 1997 with the addition of Jonny Quinn. That first commercially viable album, Final Straw peaked at number three on the UK Album chart and broke through at number 91 on the Billboard 200. Snow Patrol enjoyed multi-platinum status in the UK and Ireland and attained gold certification in the U.S. The song "Run" resonated particularly well. Snow Patrol parted ways with original bassist Mark McCelland in 2005, extending a welcome hand to Paul Wilson. Now the group consisted of Lightbody as the lead singer, Quinn as the drummer, Wilson as the bassist, Nathan Connolly as the lead guitarist, and Tom Simpson as the keyboardist. Johnny McDaid would later officially become a part of the group, but he has been offering support as the pianist, rhythm guitarist, and backing vocalist since 2005. The most popular album in the group's discography followed. Eyes Open reached number one in the UK and Australia and number 27 in the U.S., and became a platinum or multi-platinum album in the UK, Australia, Canada, Ireland, Germany, and the United States. The group followed with A Hundred Million Suns and now Fallen Empires, and Snow Patrol the memorable singles include "You're All I Have", "Chasing Cars", "Signal Fire", "Take Back the City", and "Just Say Yes".
