Although the light may have dimmed somewhat since Cameroon last brightened the world stage by making the quarter-finals at the 1990 FIFA World Cup Italy, Les Lions Indomables is not a team to underestimate come 2010's FIFA World Cup in South Africa. As the top African nation in FIFA's rankings, Cameroon also brings their nation's richest pedigree to the finals; appearing a continental-best five times in the World Cup, while no other African team has ever surpassed their historic run to the 1990 quarter-finals, although Senegal did match the accomplishment at Korea/Japan 2002.

In their most recent three finals appearances, however, Cameroon has not managed to make their way out of the group stage, winning only once out of those nine matches, before losing out entirely on Germany 2006 after missing a penalty kick in the final minutes of their final qualifier versus Egypt. That was then, but now the long road to the 2010 World Cup has provided a considerable momentum to what many Cameroonians believe may very well be the correct mix of players, and hopefully a new generation to conjure up memories of such Indomitable Lions greats as Roger Milla and Francois Omam-Biyik.

Although, to many, the 2-0 victory in Morocco which guaranteed their qualification was proof enough, Cameroon had in fact completed an impressive comeback in a tournament that began with a loss and a draw in their first two matches. It was then two victories in four days over contenders Gabon that got the ball rolling, followed by a convincing 3-0 defeat of Togo; with the aforementioned final victory over Morocco, Cameroon's four consecutive victories were more than enough to gain way to South Africa. When all was said and done, the team was led back by the inspired play of such veterans as defenders Geremi Njitap and Rigobert Song, and goalkeeper Idriss Carlos Kameni, as Les Lions Indomables surrendered only two goals in their six final matches!

Samuel Eto'o scored a total of nine goals in the eleven qualifiers, cementing the world class striker's position as the first player that opposing coaches will try to stop. The promising Pierre Webó is the other main threat on the front line, while Jean Makoun, Stephane Mbia, and Alexandre Song provide the mid-field with a stylish yet rough edge in front of mainstay defenders Song, Geremi and Kameni.
