Danish Dynamite also played some of their best soccer at UEFA EURO 2004 in Portugal, but came up against a well-prepared Czech Republic in the quarter-finals and lost 3-0. With their long absence from the major football stage now coming to an end, captain Jon Dahl Tomasson and his teammates are anxious to put in a great performance in South Africa. Should head coach Morten Olsen be able to avoid the injury bug which threatened to squash his team's qualification run at one point, the undoubted talent of the squad makes the Scandinavians a good bet to provide one or two surprises during this year's World Cup. The critical victory in Lisbon featured an amazing three goals in the last ten minutes. Denmark also defeated neighboring rival Sweden, both home and away, by a 1-0 margin in both matches.

Olsen will be closing in on a decade as Denmark's head coach come finals time in South Africa, having taken over in 2000 and leading Danish Dynamite to the 2002 FIFA World Cup and UEFA EURO 2004.
