In January 2007, the club made global headlines by signing English superstar mid-fielder David Beckham to a record-setting deal, potentially worth $250 million! This only helped to bolster the fact that the L.A. Galaxy is currently one of the MLS' most popular teams and also amongst the top franchises in the league in attendance as well. Unfortunately, the Galaxy will be without the services of Beckham (15 games, 2 goals, 3 assists) for most of the season due to an Achilles tendon tear he suffered while playing for AC Milan. However, even when the star does return, the injury will likely render him less mobile than before. The good news is that the Galaxy was only a penalty kick away from winning the MLS Cup in 2009, a huge improvement over L.A.'s disastrous 2008 season, in which the Galaxy finished dead last.

2010 L.a. Galaxy

 The 2010 campaign has star forward and team captain Landon Donovan (27 games, 15 goals, 7 assists) returning from his extremely successful offseason loan to Everton, looking to dominate once again this year. If forward Edson Buddle (17 games, 5 goals) can recapture his 15-goal season of 2008, it should help take some pressure off of Donovan. The 2009 MLS Rookie-of-the-Year, defender Omar Gonzalez (34 games, 1 goal, 1 assist), should continue to improve as a strong central defender alongside the established Gregg Berhalter (30 games, 1 goal), while goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts (11-7-12 record, 100 saves) should be very reliable again this season. Coach Bruce Arena brought in three on-loan players from Brazilian club Sao Paulo – mid-fielder Juninho, and defenders Alex Cazumba and Leonardo – and the level of the contributions these three can make may very well be the determining factor in the Galaxy's success this year. While Landon Donovan is definitely Los Angeles' headliner, given his recent ten-week loan in England and upcoming World Cup responsibilities, he may find himself with some tired legs down the MLS stretch. This is when the others will need to step up and help carry the load. Get your L.A.
