Background - Manchester City
The club has spent a majority of their time in the top tier division in the Premier League. The club acquired their very first honors by winning the Second Division in 1899. It was after that the club was promoted to the highest level in English football, which is the First Division. Defeating Bolton Wanderers acquired their foremost FA Cup on 23 April 1904. The very same season the club finished as the runners-up in the League. With major financial troubles the team underwent major crises after which the club was transferred to the stadium at Maine Road. Manchester City won their very first Division title in 1937. After much of struggle and hard work the club won the FA Cup finals in 1955 and 1956. The club won the Second Division title in 1965 under the management of Joe Mercer and Malcolm Allison. In 1967-68, the city won the League Championship for the second time and further won FA Cup in 1969, European Cup Winners' Cup in 1970 and also the League Cup in 1970. The team has proved to be one of the toughest contenders of the English Football scene. With fluctuation between top flight and second division the club managed to step up in Division One football.

2007 Season Preview

 The club was promoted to the First Division in 1998-99 and was then pulled towards the Premiership League in 1999-2000. In the 2001-02 season the club appointed Kevin Keegan as the manager who propelled the city from the First Division players to the Premiership League as champions. Manchester City qualified for the UEFA Cup in 2002-03 season and finished at the ninth position in the Premier League. The club was also honored with a Fair Play Award the same season. City appointed some new players like Paul Bosvelt, David Seaman and Michael Tarnat for the 2003-04 season and finished at the 5th position in the league. In the 2005-06 season the club held a top-six position till November. Top scorers for the 2006-07 season were Joey Barton with 6 goals and Georgios Samaras with 4 goals. Manchester city defeated Everton on 1st January 2007 with a score of 2-1, defeated Sheff Wed on 16th January 2007 with a score of 2-1, defeated Southampton on 28th January 2007 with a score of 3-1, defeated Preston on 18th February 2007 with a score of 3-1, defeated Middlesbrough on 17th March 2007 with a score of 2-0, defeated Newcastle on 31st march 2007 with a score 1-0, defeated Fulham on 9th April with a score of 3-1.
