The Revolution lost their U.S. Open Cup final and the MLS Cup in 2002 and 2005 to the Los Angeles Galaxy, while losing the 2006 and 2007 MLS Cups to the Galaxy's former rival, the relocated Houston Dynamo. The New England Revolution has seen the playoffs for the past eight straight seasons, and there is no reason to believe that 2010 will not become the ninth. The team will certainly have a different look with defenseman Jay Heaps (25 games, 1 goal, 4 assists, 1 game-winning goal) and forward/mid-fielder Steve Ralston (20 games, 7 goals, 7 assists, 2 game-winning goals) gone, but coach Steve Nicol has plenty of other quality players to choose from in their absence. Shalrie Joseph (27 games, 8 goals, 8 assists, 2 game-winning goals) is a definite MVP candidate whose attacking ability seems to leave defenders flat-footed. Joseph will need to score plenty of goals this year as the Revolution's likely strike duo of Kheli Dube (26 games, 8 goals, 4 game-winning goals) and Edgaras Jankauskas (10 games, 2 goals, 1 assist) simply cannot be relied upon for steady production all on their own.

 The Revolution remains hopeful that Taylor Twellman will return at some point this season, but it's just as possible he won't return at all. He suffered a neck injury and concussion that has kept him out of nearly all of both the 2008 and 2009 campaigns. After acquiring him from the Colorado Rapids, Preston Burpo will start the season at goalkeeper for New England while Matt Reis (24 games, 10-8-6 record, 140 shots, 114 saves, 23 GA, 0.96 GAA, 8 shutouts) recovers from shoulder surgery. If Burpo can perform sufficiently between the pipes during Reis' absence, the Revolution could be one tough team to beat this year. The Revolution has earned their share of awards and championships during their time as the MLS representative in New England; MLS Cup runner-up (2002, 2005-07), MLS Supporters' Shield runner-up (2005), Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup winner (2007) and runner-up (2001), and SuperLiga Champion (2008). This is one promising team that has an immensely supportive fan base, especially in a region better known for hockey or American football. Don't be left out!
