Although the Philadelphia Union is a brand new expansion team in Major League Soccer, they do enter the season as a real wild card. Philadelphia grabbed all of the attention at the 2010 SuperDraft, which was held in the Union's hometown, when they drafted Oregon State forward Danny Mwanga at #1, mod-fielder Amobi Okugo of UCLA at #6, and Team USA U-17 star forward Jack McInerney with the #7 pick. Quite a haul!

Even after an impressive draft like that, Union coach Peter Nowak showed he wasn't going to just rest on his laurels. Philadelphia acquired Brazilian mid-fielder Fred from D.C. United (2007-09: 72 games, 11 goals) in a trade this offseason in an attempt to add an offensive boost to his squad. Mix in the acquisition of hardest the working man in MLS from Seattle, Sebastien Le Toux, in the Expansion Draft, and the Union should find themselves very balanced in the mid-field.

It's an expansion team, but one with a good coach, talent in goal, and enough solid defenders to make life tough on opposing offenses. The big question mark for Philadelphia seems to be figuring out where the goals are going to come from. The Union recorded a 4-5-1 record in their preseason matches, which means that top-pick Mwanga could find himself playing as a one man show at times, which could prove to be a real issue until someone else steps up.
