The city of Somerville is located in the state of Massachusetts, United States. Somerville falls in the County of Middlesex and according to the 2000 United States Census, the population of the city stands at 77,478, making it the most densely populated municipality in New England region.

Somerville was incorporated in the year 1842 and is situated north of the city of Boston. As per the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.2 square miles, of which 97.39% is land.
