The city of Sonoma is located in the state of California, United States. Sonoma falls in the County of 'Sonoma' and is the county seat of the same. It has a lot of historical significance since the city is centered around the historic town plaza, which reminisces the Spanish colonial past in the city. According to the 2000 United States Census, the population of the city stands at 9,128.

The city is widely acknowledged as a center of the wine industry for the Sonoma Valley AVA appellation and was incorporated in the year 1883. Sonoma is situated in the Sonoma Valley and is bordered by the Mayacamas Mountains and Sonoma Mountains to its east and west respectively. The Sonoma Creek and the Rodgers Fault are prominent physical landscapes in the city. As per the United States Census Bureau, the city covers an area of 2.65 square miles, of which 100% is land.

The city of Sonoma features a rich degree of fauna and showcases a wide variety of exotic birds, small mammals and amphibians. The famous California quail is also found here along with many other exotic species, such as the black tailed deer and different species of towhee, waxwing, robin, thrush and sparrow.
