Artist Biography - Spock's Beard
|
Brothers Neal and Alan Morse started Spock's Beard, a progressive rock band from Los Angeles, in 1992. Nick D'Virgilio on drums and Dave Meros on bass soon joined the duo. The quartet released its maiden album ‘The Light' in 1995. The album, which had four long songs, was well received by progressive rock fans, but it received little public acclaim. After the release of the album, keyboardist Ryo Okumoto joined the band. In 1996, the band came out with its first live album ‘The Official Bootleg'. The album had live performances of all the songs from the first album, in addition to one song from the upcoming second album. The same year the band released its second effort ‘Beware of Darkness'. A year later the band came out with its third album ‘The Kindness of Strangers', which was followed by ‘Day for Night' in 1999. In 2001 the band released yet another album ‘V'.
In 2002, the band came out with a double-CD concept album ‘Snow'. After the release of the highly acclaimed album, Neal Morse quit the band to pursue a solo career as a Christian-Progressive artist. Drummer Nick D'Virgilio who took over the responsibility of singing and songwriting filled the vacuum created by Morse. The first album ‘Feel Euphoria' released after the departure of Neal Morse had a harder-rocking and more experimental sound. After a long gap, the band came out with the album ‘Octane', in the beginning of 2005. The album was a success and after its release the band hit the road to support it. In 2006 the band released an eponymous album ‘Spock's Beard'.
