The city of Stockton is located in the state of California, United States. Stockton falls in the county of San Joaquin. According to the 2008 estimates by the California Department of Finance, the population of the city stands at 289,927, making it the fifth most populous inland city in the state of California.

Stockton is situated at the lowest point of the San Joaquin Valley and was incorporated as a city in the year 1850 . The city was awarded the title of the best tree city in the entire western United States by the magazine 'Sunset'. As per the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 62.1 square miles, of which 97.78% is land.
