Street Sweeper Social Club is the super group featuring rapper Boots Riley of The Coup and guitarist Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine. This rap-rock duo has helped reinvigorate a genre long since suffering from the after effects of Limp Bizkit. The duo met on the Billy Bragg Tell Us the Truth Tour in 2003. Morello performed as a solo artist, sometimes taking the stage with Boots Riley as an acoustic folk musician he dubbed the Nightwatchman. He would sometimes be playing acoustic versions of the Coup's songs. Eventually these two decided to make this stage act a studio act and a real side project.

Five years later Boots and the Nightwatchman joined forces as the Street Sweeper Social Club. The group scored a hit with the single "100 Little Curses", debuting the song on Morello's Nightwatchman tour in 2008. By early 2009 the duo had recorded an album. With a spring release date SSSC took to the road with Nine Inch Nails and Jane's Addiction on a summer tour. The 2009 tour received a bit of marketing with NINJA, an advance listen to the three groups.
