The Subdudes are a band that was formed in 1987, they were primarily inspired by music of their native New Orleans. It was in 1987 at four musicians got together for a one-time performance at the Tipitina's in New Orleans. The show turned out to be a success and exceeded the expectations of all the artists involved and on that fateful night the Subdudes were born.
The band has been led by singer/guitarist Tommy Malone and accordionist John Magnie. The music of the Subdudes is a combination of the elements of blues, gospel, funk, and R&B and their own vocals, for a truly exclusive sound. The band is also remembered for substituting a tambourine player for a drummer. After backing artists such as Joni Mitchell and Roseanne Cash, they recorded their debut album in 1990 which consisted of a mix of covers and originals.

Nearly 10 years later, after five well-received albums and several years of hard touring, the Subdudes called it quits. In February 2002, three of the original band members decided to regroup, they recruited some longtime friends to fill up the voids and renamed themselves the Dudes. The band then named themselves the Subdudes once again. The band then joined Bob Dylan's guitarist Freddy Koella to release the album "Miracle Mule" in 2004.
