The city of Sudbury is located in the state of Ontario, Canada. Sudbury lies in the northern portion of the city and although it's official name is presently 'Greater Sudbury', it is mostly known by its earlier name of Sudbury. According to the 2006 Canada Census, the population of the city stands at 157,857, making it the most populous city in the northern portion of Ontario.

Greater Sudbury was established in the year 2001 by amalgamating the cities and towns of what was formerly the Regional Municipality of Sudbury. According to the Canada Census Bureau, the city covers and area of 1,235.5 square miles. The city is said to be on an earthquake prone area that has high seismic activity.

Sudbury is a popular tourist location and features many attractions, such as the 'Art Gallery of Sudbury' and the 'La Galerie du Nouvel-Ontario'. Both these galleries are known to display a rich collection of artwork. The two professional theatrical companies of the city, the 'Sudbury Theatre Centre' and the 'Théâtre du Nouvel-Ontario', are quiet famous and renowned for their performances.

Sudbury is also famous for hosting a number of events and festivals, such as the film festival 'Cinéfest',the 'Sudbury Summerfest', the 'Northern Lights Festival Boréal' and 'La Nuit sur l'étang'. The Sudbury Symphony Orchestra is a famous performing group from the city/

Sudbury has a rich sporting culture and a number of accomplished teams and clubs are from the city. The famous hockey team, 'Sudbury Wolves' and the football club, the 'Sudbury Spartans', are examples of the same. Sudbury also features the famous racing track called the 'Sudbury Downs'.
