The city of Surprise is located in the state of Arizona, United States. Surprise falls in the County of Maricopa. According to the 2000 United States Census, the population of the city stands at 30,848. However, the city has said to have experienced a major spurt in the population and as per 2006 Census Bureau estimates, the population has gone up to 85,914, making it the second fastest growing place in terms of population in the state of Arizona.

Surprise is situated merely 20 miles northwest of the capital city of Arizona, Phoenix. As per the United States Census Bureau, the city covers a total area of 69.5 square miles, of which 99.97% is land, and is at an elevation of 1,175 ft.

The city of Surprise has a major sporting culture. Surprise is the spring training home of accomplished baseball teams of 'Kansas City Royals' and 'Texas Rangers'. The 'Surprise Stadium' is a famous sporting venue in the city. The stadium is a part of the 'Surprise Recreation Campus athletic facility' and has a seating capacity of 10,500. In fact, both the above mentioned teams are based in the stadium for their spring training.

In the year 2005, the city of Surprise hosted the ESPN SportsCenter event, '50 States in 50 Days'. The accomplished 'Arizona Fall League' baseball team, 'Surprise Rafters', and the Global Baseball League team, 'Surprise Fightin' Falcons', are also based in the city.
