It has been 44 years and Rush is still alive. They are not one of those bands touring on pure nostalgia. They are not in concert to celebrate the 25th anniversary of a multi-platinum album. No, Canada’s glorious hard rocking, progressive metal band is back with their 19th album. Rush tickets are already on sale and selling well for the Clockwork Angels Tour. The tour begins in September, three months after the release of the album. On September 7, 2012 Rush will pull into Manchester, New Hampshire to play the Verizon Wireless Arena. The tour will take the band through 30 North American cities, ending on December 2, 2012 in Houston, Texas at the Toyota Center.

Nearly three years ago the band Aerosmith stood at a crossroad. Steven Tyler was refusing to be a part of a South American leg to their underwhelming tour, instead choosing to focus on an autobiography and his upcoming introduction as the newest judge on American Idol. Joe Perry and the rest of the group were so outraged they believed Tyler would leave the group, courting Lenny Kravitz to become the new lead singer and front man. In the end, Tyler would stave off departure rumors and Aerosmith’s future remained a fragile creature.

It had been five years since the world has had the pleasure of enjoying the Red Hot Chili Peppers on vinyl or in person. Then on August 26, 2011, the RHCP released their 10th album, I’m With You. The album is the result of working with Rick Rubin, a little bit of book learnin’ for Flea, and the all too human experience of growing up.

Bob Seger and the Sliver Bullet Band used to be a platinum selling band that dominated the 1970s and 1980s. Now they are an annual touring sensation dominating the road, choosing to play hits like “Turn the Page” rather than frustrate fans with new material. If Seger consistently recorded new material, the Silver Bullet Band would have to grow with the times, and his fans do not want him to expand his musical horizons. No, they are happy to enjoy their Bob Seger tickets to take part for a set of nostalgia and are willing to dish out some big bucks for compilation albums so they can take that sentimentality on the road.

A Las Vegas residency requires performers to essentially embark on the tours they undertook at the beginning of their career, playing consecutive nights with some time off between the next set of gigs. However, one of the advantages is that during a residency there is much less travel, so there is far less jet, or bus, lag and the days off are far more restful and tranquil.
