Tellabration is a storytelling event, where stories are a phenomenon that is made up of storytelling happening all over the world. Thousands and thousands of people from all over the world come together in spirit, to celebrate the joy of story, People from all age groups- young old and middle-aged gather in the venue. There are in total 32 Tellabration TM venues in Connecticut in the year 2006, and is held during the week before Thanksgiving.
The originator of Tellabration, J.G.Pinkerton visualized the international event to build a community support for storytelling. It was in the year 1988, when the event was finally launched in six locations across the state by the Connecticut Storytelling Center. It was a huge success and since it became so popular, that it was later extended to several other states the following year. In the year 1990, it was decided to expand the event nationwide under the fold of the National Storytelling Network, then called NAPPS and was later called the National Storytelling Association. For the first time there was a Tellabration in Japan in the year 1995. It was brought there by Masako Sueyoshi, a Japanese storyteller who was a part of Tellabration. By the end of 1997, there were Tellabration in every continent. Guilds and storytelling enthusiasts from all around the globe shares and celebrate the art of storytelling. The storytellers, in Tellabration, delights, captivate and mesmerize audiences with their talents.

Artist Biography - Tellabration

 The primary reason behind Tellabration is promoting the notion of storytelling as a worthwhile entertainment for all age groups. There are also two other very important aspects of the Tellabration experience. They are, its value as a fund raiser. People who are involved in this event-producers, storytellers and all those who are involved in this show donate their time and talent. The funds that are raised are used to give support to local storytelling groups as well as state and national organizations also. Some funds are also given away to purchase books for the needy children. It also serves as a platform for the storytellers to showcase their talents. The well-known professionals storytellers on a program helps to draw a crowd as well as those who are not well-known gains from the exposure. A number of production groups encourage the beginners to try out at Tellabration and gain recognition. They also gain valuable experience that is not readily available anywhere else.
The event attracts various people from all walks of life as well as cultures. Storytelling is that kind of art form which doesn't requires any advanced learning or specialized training to appreciate its performance and as such no special training is essential to participate in the performance too, since it is generally believed that all human beings are storytellers. This is the most important reason, why Tellabration is so successful, because everybody loves listening to a good story when given th opportunity. People are finding out, each year, that storytelling is not only for children but for everyone and that there is great entertainment outside of television and movies.
