Artist Biography - Tha Alkaholiks
|
'Tha Alkaholiks' alias 'Tha Liks', was a renowned American hip hop band originated from Los Angeles. During the early 1990s, the band produced funky, upbeat, hedonism-themed party music with a hardcore hip hop edge, influenced by the beats of DJ and producer, E-Swift and the lively comedic rhymes of J-Ro and Tash. Though the band achieved less commercial success at the beginning, it dedicated itself entirely to its native West Coast, throughout the United States and worldwide.
While J-Ro was only 13 years old, he started to perform rapping. As E-Swift (DJ) and Tash (Rapper) already had an established partnership, they began performing for local gigs and house parties at the onset of their career. After a few days, both of them moved to Los Angeles, where they met J-Ro and formed the band, 'Tha Alkaholiks'. The band achieved its first recognition after appearing on Tee's 'Tha Triflin Album' and releasing its most successful single 'I Got It Bad Y'All'. After that, the band conducted some tours with some renowned hip hop stars like KRS-One, Ice Cube, Too $hort and also sharpened its skills. It also helped them to increase their fan base. In 1993, the band released its debut album, '21 & Over'. It was a lean 10-track set that spawned the famous singles like 'Make Room', 'Only When I'm Drunk' and 'Likwit', as well as established the band as one of the most distinctive artists on the West Coast.
In 1995, the band released its second album, 'Coast II Coast', where it showed its endeavour to promote its sound. This album became massive hit and its copies sold numerous. In 1997, the band released its next album, 'Likwidation' and in 1999, Tash's debut solo album, 'Rap Life' was released. Both of them turned out as super hits and their copies ran out of stocks. In August 2004, the band announced that its next album, 'Firewater', would be released in the early 2006. The band also confirmed that it would be the its final album.
