Sure, rock has its super groups, but so does bluegrass. Well, actually The Grascals is a bluegrass super group comprised of talented musicians who supported major acts in the studio and on tour. They - Terry Eldredge, Jamie Johnson, Danny Roberts, Terry Smith, Kristin Scott Benson, and Jimmy Mattingly (to be replaced by Jeremy Abshire in 2008) – have managed to turn a one-time performance at the Station Inn in Nashville in 2004 into a career changing endeavor, selling The Grascals tickets to a rabid base who may not number enough to make their albums platinum sellers, but do make them an attractive act for venues across the country.
The Grascals owe much of their success to Dolly Parton. She decided she liked what she heard back in that formative year and soon had the group performing at Dollywood. Appearances at the Grand Ole Opry and studio time followed.
In 2005 the band released its self-titled debut album. Though it would go uncertified by the RIAA, it would reach number three on the Billboard Bluegrass chart. The next four albums have each peaked inside the Top 5 on the genre chart (Long List of Heartaches, Keep on Walkin', and Country Classics with a Bluegrass Spin reached number one and The Famous Lefty Flynn's reached number three) and its last effort has even broken into the Billboard 200.
