The Kills is a minimalist rock duo with band mates from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. Alison "VV" Mosshart and Jamie "Hotel" Hince did not meet up at a party nor have common friends. No, the Kills project began though the mail. VV lived in Florida and Hotel lived in London. They sent tapes back and forth to each other in 2000, developing a new sound, a more minimalistic songwriting approach that proved to be a change for both. Now, years later, the Kills tickets are available for their concert tour as they promote their fourth studio album, Blood Pressures.

The Kills meant to stay indie. Despite interest from major labels garnered after critics gave literary standing ovations to their tracks, the Kills desired to remain independent. They released their first album, Keep Your Mean Side, in 2003. The album peaked at 47 on the UK charts but failed to chart in the U.S. The group finally made a chartable impression two years later with the release of their second album, No Wow. The album took the Kills to number 18 on the U.S. Heat charts.

Since No Wow, the Kills have released Midnight Boom in 2008 and, now Blood Pressure, in 2011. Blood Pressure has definitely built the most buzz, most likely thanks to Mosshart's role as lead singer in Jack White's side project the Dead Weather. The Kills are a terrific rock band on their own though, with the media rushing to paint them as the next White Stripes.
