The Kingston Trio is a famous American folk group with a new and unique music which was formed in 1957 in Palo Alto, California. The band was founded by young and energetic musicians Bob Shane, Nick Reynolds, and Dave Guard. The trio was highly influenced by The Weavers, the calypso sounds of Harry Belafonte, and folk artists like the Gateway Singers and the tarrier. This young but ambitious trio was discovered by a local publicist, Frank Werber while they were playing at a college club called the Cracked Pot. Frank became their manager, and earned them a one-shot deal with Capitol Records. The Group is credited for supporting the launch of the folk revival of the 1960s and continued to thrive despite the emergence of rock and roll.

Artist Biography - The Kingston Trio
|
The Trio released their first hit which was an attractive rendition of an old-time folk song, "Tom Dooley". This song went gold in 1958. It became too popular to resist entering the popular culture as a catchphrase. Ella Fitzgerald parodies it during her recorded version of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer". This popular song earned them the first Grammy award for Best Country & Western Performance in 1959. Following year, they bagged another Grammy Award for Best Ethnic or Traditional Folk Recording category for the album "The Kingston Trio at Large".
In 1960's This trio had a collection of four super hit albums at the same time among the Top 10 selling albums making an unmatched record for nearly 40 years. Capitol producer Voyle Gilmore enhanced the simple music of the trio to a refined vocal sound to great effect with reverb and the comparatively new process of doubletracking. In 1961, Guard left the band and replaced by John Stewart, who remained the leader and took the trio to the heights of popularity until the arrival of The Beatles and British. The group dissolved in 1967 after a final performance at the Hungry on June 17, 1967.
Shane, the only willing member to stay with the group, started a new group, named "The New Kingston Trio", in 1969. Finally, Shane was successful in making his former partners, Guard, Reynolds, and Werber to join the group and to secure and undertake once again, the original name, "The Kingston Trio". Reynolds who was one of the original members rejoined the group in 1980s and remained for many years. In 2000, The Kingston Trio were inducted into The Vocal Group Hall of Fame. The poor health of Shane made him to retire from his group in 2004 and was replaced by Bill Zorn. In 2005, Bobby Haworth left the group. He was later replaced by Rick Dougherty, who had been a member of The Limeliters. The current line up of The Kingston Trio includes George Grove, Bill Zorn and Rick Dougherty.
Currently , the Kingston Trio is on road to make its fans dazzle with its great performance. It is extensively touring America with its successful shows at the major venues and cities.
