The Mother Hips are a California based band that play soulful West Coast inspired rock 'n' roll. They are the bearers of the flaring torch that was once held by artists such as Buffalo Springfield, the Byrds, Poco, the Beach Boys, and Gram Parsons.
The Mother Hips were formed in Chico, California, in 1991. Their music started to catch on, the Mother Hips upgraded from their bar band status through a series of regional tours and built a respectable fan base in California. The members of the band re songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist Tim Bluhm, guitarist Greg Loiacono, bassist Isaac Parsons, and drummer Mike Wofchuck. They group met in the dorms of Chico State in the early '90s.

They released their debut album in 1992, entitled "Back to the Grotto" and caught the ear of American Recordings. Their next two albums were released under the same label, 1995's "Part-Timer Goes Full" and 1996's "Shootout." This relationship led to some high-profile gigs with Johnny Cash, Wilco, and the H.O.R.D.E. tour.
In 1998, Drummer Wofchuck was replaced by John Hofer. The band broke away from American Recordings and released their fourth album, "Later Days," and proved that they could make better a record on their own label, and for less money. Throughout their career, the band has experimented with Blues Rock, Jam Rock, pop arrangements, and soaring vocal harmonies. In 2001 they released their fifth album which was more pop oriented, "Green Hills of Earth."
