Artist Biography - The Rapture
|
In 1998, drummer Vito Roccoforte along with guitarist/vocalist Luke Jenner started the band, The Rapture. A year after formation, the band came out with their debut 'mini-album' 'Mirror'. After the release of the album the band shifted to New York. The band in their short period of existence has seen five keyboard players and two bassists come and go. In New York the band roped in Matt Safer to solidify their line up, after which they concentrated on touring. The band was on the road for almost two years, playing various venues. After two years of touring, the band came out with the EP 'Out of the Races and Onto the Tracks' on the Sub Pop label. The main track from the EP was featured in the film version of the Bret Easton Ellis novel 'The Rules of Attraction'. The Rapture were forebears of the post-punk revival of the early 2000s, as they amalgamated their early post-punk sound with electronic and dance components via their alliance with the renowned New York production team DFA. In 2002, multi-instrumentalist Gabriel Andruzzi was roped in to further solidify the lineup. The band with their new line-up, released their first full-length album 'Echoes' in 2003. The album was widely accepted by fans as well as the critics. In January 2004, the band toured the NME Awards Tour, as the main backing band for Funeral for a Friend. The same year the band toured the 'Curiosa Festival' with acts like Interpol, Scarling., Mogwai, Cursive, Thursday, The Cooper Temple Clause, Head Automatica, and their own idols, The Cure. In 2004 them selves, the band came out with their DVD 'Is Live and Well', in New York City through DFA Records/Mercury Records Limited.
In 2006, the band came out with their second full-length effort 'Pieces of the People We Love' on Universal Motown Records. The album produced by Paul Epworth, Ewan Pearson and Danger Mouse exhibited a more refined and strikingly less angular sound. After the release of the album the band embarked on a tour in which they backed 'The Killers' on the London leg of their tour at the Carling Academy Brixto.
