Anne Of Green Gables
Anne of Green Gables is a musical show based on the novel of the same name written by Lucy Maud Montgomery in 1908. It was made into the musical in 1965. Since 1965 Anne of Green Gables has been running regularly in the Charlottetown Festival at the Confederation Centre of Arts. In the September of 1964 the musical performed at the opening of Confederation Centre of Arts. Anne of Green Gables has now become the longest- running main stage musical of Canada. Anne of Green Gables has also performed outside Prince Edward Island. Its first performance on foreign soil was at New, Theatre in London on 16th April, 1969. During 1980's and 1990's Anne of Green Gables performed in Japan produced by Gekidan Shiki. Other cities which featured on its tour radar are cites in North America. Anne of Green Gables is the story of young orphaned girl Anne Shirley with freckle face and red hair. She is sent to the home of a brother and sister Matthew and Marilla Cutbert. They live in the fictional town Avonlea of Prince Edward Island in Canada. Anne's life is devastated when she comes to know that Cutberts wanted to adopt a boy from the orphanage. But Cutberts finally accepts her. The character of Anne Shirley is one with fiery temper, romantic and melodramatic and has a penchant for misadventures. She is able to bring love, laughter and some dismay to the quite lives of brother and sister. In return Anne finds happiness and the home of her dreams. The other main characters in the play are Diana Barry, Anne's best friend, her love interest Gilbert Blythe who was earlier her class rival and Mrs Rachel Lynde the most important resident of Avonlea.
Anne of Green Gables came to life only through the hard work and creative genius of some persons in 1965. Persons like Norman Campbell, Elaine Campbell, Alan Lund, Mavor Moore and Don Harron teamed together to form Anne of Green Gables the musical.
