Annie Get Your Gun
Annie Get Your Gun tickets have been selling since the show premiered in 1946 on Broadway. The musical told the story of Annie Oakley, the sharpshooter from Ohio that has been celebrated as part of the immensely popular traveling Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. This is, of course, a love story about a woman whose skill surpasses that of the man she challenges and eventually falls in love with, Frank Butler
The show seemed destined to succeed with its creators. Irving Berlin is considered one of the greatest songwriters ever and wrote the music and lyrics for Annie Get Your Gun. Brother and sister writing team Henry and Dorothy Fields wrote the book. The pair was well known for their stage writing and Henry eventually won a Tony Award. With a creative team with such stars Annie Get Your Gun already had positive buzz before it even opened on Broadway.
Once the show opened at the Imperial Theater on May 16, 1946, the musical captured the audiences imagination with songs like There's No Business Like Show Business, Doin' What Comes Natur'lly, You Can't Get a Man with a Gun, and They Say It's Wonderful. The show ran for an incredible 1,147 performances and starred Ethel Merman as Annie Oakley and Ray Middleton as Frank Butler. The show then moved from New York to London where it ran at the London Coliseum on the famed West End for 1,304 performances. Anne Get Your Gun tickets had become best sellers on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean and the musical has had a number of major revivals since.

Show Biography - Annie Get Your Gun
|
The story begins in Cincinnati, Ohio. Frank Butler, one of the main attractions of Buffalo Bill's Wild West show, challenges anyone in town to a shooting contest. He is boastful and a womanizer. A local hotel owner finds Annie Oakley (a backwoods girl with little knowledge of the modern and popular world) and gets her to enter the competition. She sees Frank, unaware that he is the opponent, and falls in love. Annie wins the shooting competition and joins Frank and the show on the road.
Eventually Annie outshines Frank's star and his pride drives to a rival show despite having fallen in love with her. Annie continues to travel on with Buffalo Bill's Wild West. Buffalo Bill and his rival, Pawnee Bill, are traveling Europe, but quickly running out of money. The two plan to merge, assuming each other have the money, but are at a loss when they find out both are broke.
Annie Get Your Gun brings the show to an end by reuniting Annie and Frank, merges the shows and ends the entire affair on a big a musical number. Tickets to the musical will once again be available soon with Patti LuPone and Brian Stokes Mitchell ready to bring Annie Oakley and Frank Butler at the summer season at the Ravinia Festival in the summer of 2010.
