Annie started in 1976 at the Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, Connecticut. The first Broadway production opened at the Alvin Theatre in 1977 and starred Andrea Mc Ardle as Annie, Reid Shelton as Daddy Warbucks, Dorothy Loudon as Miss Hannigan, and Sandy Faison as Grace Farrell. The first showing was nominated for 11 Tony Awards and won 7, including Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Book. The show would later close in 1983, running for 2,377 performances, setting a record in Alvin Theatre as the longest running show, now the Neil Simon Theatre. During this period, there were four touring companies that launched to bring the show to major United States Cities.
In 2005, the 30th anniversary traveling production of Annie was opened as a touring Broadway play by Networks Tours for multiple years. Annie was played originally by Marissa O'Donnell again, Amanda Balon played Duffy, Anastasia Korbal played Molly, Gabi Nicole Carruba played Kate, and Brandy Panfili played Tessie, nicKayla Ticker played July, and Madison Zavitiz played Pepper. The Equity tour closed in 2007 at the Hippodrome Theatre when the UK tour producers wanted to continue the touring group in Europe.
